Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-Great Grandmother (Nona), Betty J. (Reppert) Schappell, age 85, of Windsor Twp., passed away into God's hands on January 12, 2014 peacefully at home.
Betty Jean (Reppert) Schappell was born to the late Irvin O. and Pearl V. (Fritz) Reppert on April 13, 1928 in Windsor Twp. She was predeceased by four brothers: Charles, Leroy, Floyd and Irvin Reppert; and two sisters: Myrtle Albright and Dorothy Boyer. Betty, former wife of the late George L. Schappell who died March 30, 1988, is survived by their children: Anthony G. Schappell, and wife Patsy (Geiger); Joyce A. Zettlemoyer, and husband John; and Lennia J. Kauffman, and husband Ricky, all of Windsor Twp. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Michelle A. Grugan, and husband Brian; Tammy L. Wilkinson; Anthony G. Schappell, Jr., and wife Lisa; and Brandi L. Gravish, and husband Shawn; six great-grandchildren: Dennis, Anthony III, Natalie, Emily, Haley and Hannah; two great-great-grandsons: Issac and Noah; two sisters-in-law: Betty Reppert and Amy Reppert; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a homemaker and took care of the family farm with her husband. She was also a mill worker and last worked at Exide Corporation until retiring in 1988. Betty enjoyed gardening and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends were Betty's love and joy. She loved to cook and try new recipes. Betty will be especially remembered for her delicious Pennsylvania Dutch cooking - ham and chicken pot pie; baking - graham custard, pecan and pumpkin pies; and her Easter candy.
Betty was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. She was a devoted Christian, who read her Bible every day, sang Children's gospels to her grandchildren, made yummy treats for all her doctors and caregivers, and rescued and cared for numerous cats and dogs. Betty was a wonderful example of faith, strength and charity! The family wishes to thank Kathy, Ordell and Lori of Care For People from Berks for their loving care so graciously given and the Berks Visiting Nurses for being there in her hours of need.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg; and Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
