Betty J. Naftzinger "Yodeling Betty", 94, of Centre Twp., passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 in her residence. She was the widow of the late Norman C. Naftzinger, died June 6, 2001.
Born in Centre Twp., she was the daughter of the late Leroy J. and Mary (Graeff) Weist. Betty was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. She prided herself working on her family farm for her lifetime. She also owned a stand at the Leesport Farmer's Market. She always enjoyed yodeling and singing; playing the guitar for kids at church; singing at Laurel Center, and volunteering at Reading Rehab.
She is survived by a son: Scott A. Naftzinger, husband of Donna Marie (Moyer), Tilden Twp.; three daughters: Shirley A. (Naftzinger) Kauffman, wife of Ray, Cumru Twp., Susan J. (Naftzinger) Dougherty, wife of Dennis A., Mohrsville, and Lori L. (Naftzinger) Kuhn, widow of John R., Wernersville; eight grandchildren: Shelley Kauffman (David), Tracy Astheimer (Jason), Stepanie Schwartz (Robert), Bradley Dougherty (Kim), Tina Phillips (George), Jessica Pisker (Luke), Calvin Naftzinger, and Kayla Naftzinger; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister: Anna Lied, a resident at Columbia Cottage. She was predeceased by a granddaughter: Jennifer Kuhn; three brothers: John, Kenneth, and Leroy Weist; and four sisters: Mildred (Weist) Folk, Ada (Weist) Spatz, Mae (Weist) Christ, and Mary (Weist) Snyder.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 12 noon from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A visitation will be held from 11:00 to 12:00 pm in the funeral home.
