Barbara L. Snell, 86, of Halfmoon, New York; and formerly of Port Clinton, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024 in Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. She was the wife of John R. Snell, who died November 10, 2005.
Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Harry N. and Mary L. (Schaeffer) Althouse. Barbara was a graduate of Hamburg High School. She worked at the Windsor Press, Hamburg. Barbara was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. She was a photographer, painter and artist. She would paint Hex signs and scenic pictures, many of them for her family. Barbara loved flowers, animals and camping with the family. During high school, Barbara had a pen pal from Great Britain. This lead to her having a great love for anything Great Britain. Barbara was fortunate to maintain a friendship with her pen pal over the years.
Barbara is survived by two sons: J. Scott Snell, Wyomissing; and Richard E. Snell, Halfmoon, New York; son-in-law: William M. Pickel, Lenhartsville; and three grandchildren: Alexandra, Marissa and Steven. She is also survived by her siblings: Dorothy Balthaser, John Althouse, husband of Pamela (Bear); Patricia VanBuskirk, wife of Michael; Michael Althouse, husband of Annette (Roth); and David Althouse, husband of Laura (Baird). Barbara was predeceased by her daughter: Pamela L. (Snell) Pickel, who died April 13, 2016.
Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Drehersville Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Friday 9:30 to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be sent to Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
