Obituary

Arlene A. Borkey, 92, formerly of Shoemakersville, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Orwigsburg Center where she resided. She was the wife of Calvin O. Borkey, who died September 28, 1988. Arlene and Calvin were married on December 31, 1949. Born in Shoemakersville, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Annie (Hess) Kline. Arlene worked for forty-five years as a folder for the Globe Underwear Factory, Shoemakersville, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. Arlene was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shoemakersville Fire Company and the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens. She enjoyed running numerous bus trips over the years. Arlene is survived by one daughter: Donna L. (Borkey), widow of Larry R. Swoyer, Windsor Twp.; one step-granddaughter: Teresa Blatt, wife of Terry Blatt; two step-great-granddaughters; one step-great-great-granddaughter; and one step-great-great-grandson. She is also survived by three brothers: Daniel Kline, Hamburg; David Kline, Ontelaunee Twp.; and Harold Kline, West Reading; and one sister: Betty (Kline) Billman, Tilden Twp. Arlene was predeceased by three brothers: Leroy, Carl and Donald Kline. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 9:30 am from St. Luke's Church, Fifth and Franklin Streets, Shoemakersville. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A visitation with the family and reception will be held at the church following the burial. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
