Arlan C. Mengel, 90, of Edenburg, Windsor Twp., passed away suddenly on Monday, November 4, 2013 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp., shortly after arrival. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Bubbenmoyer) Mengel. They were married on December 23, 1944 and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Tilden Twp., he was the son of the late Daniel O. and Eva A. (Rausch) Mengel. Arlan worked for Zweizig's Feed Mill and Lenhart Manufacturing, both of Hamburg; and last worked for the Hamburg Center until retiring in June 1988. He was a member of Zion's Church, Perry Twp. Arlan would volunteer with the church at the Kutztown Folk Festival for many years. He enjoyed gardening. Arlan was a member of the Shartlesville, Hamburg and Kutztown Fire Companies and their beneficial associations.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Stanley A. Mengel, Salisbury, Maryland; three grandchildren: Daniel R. Mengel, and his wife Jenny, Newark, Delaware; Shaun E. Mengel, and his wife Dana, Bel Air, Maryland; and Tina M. (Mengel), wife of Patrick Chayer, Colora, Maryland; and seven great-grandchildren. Arlan is also survived by two nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by two brothers: Clarence and Elton Mengel; and one sister: Irene (Mengel) Strausser.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
