Amandus I. Adam, "Pop", 97, of Hamburg, died Friday, May 2, 2025 in Genesis Laurel Nursing Center, Hamburg. He was 3 days shy of his 98th birthday.
Born May 5, 1927 in Richmond Twp., he was a son of the late James H. and Maggie E. (Adam) Adam. Amandus was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, Kutztown, since his baptism. He worked as a farmer for several local farmers. He learned this skill as a young boy, as he was hired out to help out his family at the age of 12. Amandus later went on to work at the Hamburg Broom Works for thirty-three years, retiring in 1995.
Amandus is best known for his laughter and smiling. He loved to tease and make people laugh. He was known as Pop to so many young people as they grew up while he watched over them. He enjoyed meeting his friends at the local diner for breakfast. Amandus was a true Pennsylvania Dutchman. He was fluent in speaking Pennsylvania Dutch and was always happy to find someone that could speak to him in the Dutch dialect. Throughout his life he enjoyed decorating for holidays.
Amandus is survived by his children and their families: son, Dennis L. Adam, husband of Joan, Upper Bern Twp.; daughter: Connie L. Adam, partner of William Hartranft, Hamburg; grandchildren: Shane Adam, Upper Bern Twp. and Billie Jean (Adam), wife of Larry Stoudt, Upper Bern Twp.; and great-granddaughter: Cheyanne Stoudt, whom he loved to talk and brag about. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the last survivor of eleven siblings, being predeceased by six sisters and five brothers.
