Obituary for William G. Howerter

William G. Howerter, 92, of Phoebe Berks, Wernersville, and formerly of Winding Creek Farm, Kempton, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 in Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Doris G. (Weida) Howerter, who died February 12, 2019. William and Doris were married on December 22, 1951.
Born in Kempton, he was the son of the late W. Galen and Lovie M. (Kunkel) Howerter. William was a 1947 graduate of Slatington High School. He owned and operated a large dairy farm in Kempton known as Winding Creek Farm. William was a member of New Bethel Church, Albany Twp., where he was a former church council member and Sunday School teacher. He was a first responder and ambulance driver for the Hamburg Ambulance for ten years and a director with Farm Credit. William was also on the Albany Township Planning Commission for a number of years; and a volunteer at Hawk Mountain.
William is survived by his children: Sally A. (Howerter), wife of John C. Kunkel, Nazareth; Beth L. (Howerter) Hassel, Wyomissing; Martha Sue (Howerter), wife of John Landis, Peachtree City, Georgia; and David W. Howerter, husband of Jacqueline, Seddons Corner, Manitoba, Canada; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 2:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, May 26 from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. Services for William will be live-streamed.
