Obituary for William C. Atkins

William C. Atkins, 79, of Upper Bern Twp., passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023 in Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Bernadette M. (Sullivan) Atkins. They were married May 23, 1972 and celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John F. and May S. (Schearer) Atkins. He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Twp. William was a US Air Force Veteran. He worked as a Philadelphia Police Officer for 23 years, before retiring in March 1989. He was a member of FOP Lodge #5, Philadelphia. He was an avid fan of all Philadelphia Sports; he enjoyed mechanics, especially fixing cars; and always enjoyed his vacations. William will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his time with his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife four sons: William C. Atkins, Jr., husband of Christine, Philadelphia, Gary G. Atkins, husband of Constance, Waterford, NJ, Michael J. Atkins, husband of Mistee, Hamburg, and Robert J. Atkins, husband of Terese, Womelsdorf; a step-daughter: Deborah A. (DeLussey) Northridge, wife of Keith, Canandaigua, NY; two step-sons: Joseph DeLussey, husband of Kathleen, Abington, and Thomas R. "Rick" DeLussey, husband of Donna, Hamburg; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by a sister: Mae Fisch, Philadelphia. He was predeceased by a daughter: Ginney Lynn (Atkins) Moyer; two step-sons: James M. DeLussey, and Kenneth F. DeLussey, husband of Susan DeLussey, Hamburg; and a brother: John F. Atkins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 11:00 am in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the church. Burial will be on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 2:30 pm in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with military honors, anyone wishing to attend the burial is requested to meet the procession behind the administration building at Indiantown Gap.
