Obituary for Twila E. Dixon

Twila Dixon, Mohrsville, PA, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the age of 66. A loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Twila was born April 21, 1957 to Nellie (Long) and George Dixon of Emporium, PA. She graduated from Cameron County High School (1975) and received a BS degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from York College of Pennsylvania (1979). In 1980, she began working for Radiation Management Corporation (RMC) in Pottstown, PA in their Environmental Chemistry Laboratory as a laboratory analyst. During her employment at RMC, she attended night school and earned a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry from St. Joseph's University (1988). Twila was employed by RMC through many name changes and in many positions ending in 1995 as Thermo Analytical, at which time she was Laboratory Manager. She was welcomed into the M.J. Reider Associates, Inc. family in Reading, PA in January 1996 as a Technical Director. She enjoyed working at MJRA until her retirement at the conclusion of 2022. Twila was a member of The Pennsylvania Association of Accredited Environmental Laboratories (PAAEL) serving 2 1/2 terms as President and served on the Board of Directors for many years as Treasurer. She was a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association (EPWPCOA) where she served on many committees and served as President.
Twila deeply loved her family, friends and her two dogs, Pete and Max. She was happiest when she was helping others be it her parents, other family, friends or her customers and coworkers. Twila enjoyed gardening both her flowers and her vegetables, and being outside hiking, walking the dog or burning the chiminea. She and her friend Rick also enjoyed attending various Pennsylvania fairs, home shows, Musikfest, the PA Farm Show and walking around at Knoebels Amusement Park.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents, her sister: Verda Griffith, and her two fur-babies: Pete and Max. She is survived by her best friend and companion: Rick Thompson; her brother: Bill Dixon; and six nieces and nephews: Crystal Griffith, Josh Dixon (Jen), Steve Dixon (Hannah), Mike Dixon (Lori), Dave Dixon (Cheryl), and Elizabeth Michael (Matt). She is survived by 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, many friends from college and from RMC and MJRA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, on Saturday, December 2, 2023. A gathering will begin at 10:30 am with the service beginning promptly at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Twila requests you might send donations in support of cancer research at Jefferson Health. Contributions will help advance research at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.
