Obituary for Sterling E. Stump

Sterling E. Stump, 82, of Windsor Twp., passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in his residence. He was the husband of Sherry A. (Clauss) Stump. They were married on July 20, 1963 and celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Greenwich Twp., he was the son of the late William and Verna (George) Stump. He was a 1958 graduate of Kutztown High School, where he was captain of the baseball team under the coach leadership of John Silan. Sterling was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver for Burgmeyer, Wetterau, which then became SuperValu.
Sterling was an A-member of the Keystone Social Club, Hamburg; a life member of the Hamburg Game Association, member of Behler-Hein American Legion Post 637, Hamburg; and the Hamburg Lions Club, where he was president from 1989-1990. He was an honorary member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Sterling received a gold award at SuperValu for fifteen years of safe driving; and a service award for 20 years of safe driving. He also received an award for driving 1 million miles accident-free. Sterling was an original member of the Klinesville Tigers and played for numerous softball teams. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, traveling to the tracks and was a Cale Yarborough fan. Sterling was also a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved his two furry friends: Annie and Kasey.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Julie A. (Stump), wife of Bruce Stricker, Hamburg; Bruce S. Stump, husband of Sharon (Mengel), Lenhartsville; and Jennifer L. (Stump), wife of Michael Seaton, Charlotte, North Carolina; one grandson: Jonathan Kerchner, husband of Allyson; and a great-granddaughter: Carli. Sterling was predeceased by his brothers: Russell, Steward and Wayne.
Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). A viewing will be held in the funeral home Saturday 9:00 to 10:30 am. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery, Hamburg.
