Obituary for Richard E. Sterling Jr.
Richard E. Sterling, Jr., 88, of Centre Twp., passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 in Complete Care at Berkshire, Reading. He was the husband of Ruth H. (Manwiller) Sterling, who died October 3, 2000.
Born in Minnesota, he was the son of the late Richard E. Sterling, Sr.; and Rachel (Gussman) Sterling. Richard was a graduate of Ontelaunee High School. He worked for Wolf Dye and Bleach, Shoemakersville, until his retirement. He first worked as a brick and block layer for Charles and Norman Strause. Most importantly in Richard's life, he was a farmer. He was a member of Mohrsville Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of the Shoemakersville Fire Company. Richard enjoyed farming and welding.
Richard is survived by his two sons: Richard E. Sterling, III; and Brian K. Sterling, both of Centre Twp. He was predeceased by his step-mother: Alberta (Weaver) Sterling, who raised him after his mother passed away when he was eight years old; and his two sisters: Rachel Sterling and Hazel Stetzler.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Wednesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Thursday 10:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, PA 19533 to assist the family with final expenses.
