Obituary for Michael G. Hoch

Michael G. Hoch, 59, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Richard and Jeanette (Gross) Hoch. Michael graduated from Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. While in high school, he was inducted into the Olympian Chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Kutztown University in May 1991; and his Master of Science Degree in Education in December 1995 from Kutztown University, where he was Valedictorian of his class. Michael also received a certificate as a respiratory care practitioner in 1995. He was a seventh grade earth science teacher at Muhlenberg Middle School; and also worked as a respiratory therapist specializing in neonatal care at the Reading Hospital. While teaching, he coached track and basketball. Michael was a member of the Pretzel City Chorus, Reading; and was a member of the Reading Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of BarberShop Quartet Singing in America. He was a fan of Philadelphia sports and Duke University basketball. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, building things, listening to country music as well as other music and watching Law and Order. Michael felt God's gift to him was to serve others. He would give the shirt off of his back to help someone. He helped many students with their science fair projects.
Michael is survived by his children: Julian V. Mattes, husband of Shaneka; Samantha N. (Hoch) Lowenberg, wife of Dan; Amanda J. Hoch; and Kiersten A. (Hoch) Andrews, wife of Colton; and three grandchildren: Ryleigh, Saylor and Tamzen. He is also survived by his sisters: Mary Tres Walls, wife of Bill, Sherri Blackwell, Kristina Comoh, Kathy Hoch, and Jeanette Pietrobone, wife of Jarrod. Michael was predeceased by a brother: Richard Hoch; husband of Susan; and a niece: Elizabeth Blackwell. He will be missed by his cats: Bailey and Lily.
A memorial service for Michael will be held on Monday at 7:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home Monday 5:30 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Adult and Teen Challenge, c/o Finance Department, P.O.
