Obituary for Mabel M. Stoudt (Stewart)

Mabel Marie Stoudt loved her family, hunting, bingo, and her cat Baby. Mabel passed away on February 1st, 2021 at her home in Mohrsville, Pennsylvania at the age of 82. She was born on May 6th, 1938 to Charles and Mabel Stewart of Hamburg, PA and was one of 21 children.
Mabel was a long-time member of the Hamburg Moose Lodge and Strausstown Rod & Gun Club. A strong personality and hard work ethic made it so that Mabel could rarely be dissuaded once she decided she was going to do something. She was proud of her accomplishments and spoke of them often. In her younger years Mabel worked for a variety of sewing mills where she made many friends; she also worked on her parent’s farm, and helped her father with his logging business.
Mabel was most proud of her job at Hamburg Center. She loved “her kids” and often spoke of them and her coworkers fondly. Mabel retired from Hamburg Center in April of 1999 after 25 years. However, she loved her job so much that she continued to work part time at the center until 2005.
Mabel met the love of her life when she was in her early teens. She married Donald Stoudt (of Leesport, PA) when she was 16 years old. Eventually they moved to their “forever” home in Mohrsville, PA. Together Donald and Mabel shared a love of gardening and the outdoors. In summer months you could often find Donald working diligently in his vegetable garden meanwhile Mabel could be found enjoying her flower beds, time at creek, relaxing in her hammock with the grandkids. They both often enjoyed taking their children and grandchildren on countless day trips and vacations across the U.S.
Mabel and Donald had 3 children- Donna Lee, Lisa Diane (wife of Dennis Welgo), and Larry Paul (husband of Billie Stoudt). They also had their son in law, Larry Gene Haddix whom they always loved as their own son.
After retirement Mabel enjoyed taking trips to the casino, playing bingo, and spending her time with her grandkids. Mabel was proud to have 5 grandchildren- Jessica, Alissa, Cheyanne, Hank, and Hailey. She always made sure they had something fun to do and was always providing them with some sweets. All of Mabel’s grandchildren have their own special memories with their Nan.
In 2005 Mabel, Donald, Mabel’s sister and brother in law were in a tragic car accident on the way to the casino. Mabel suffered from numerous severe injuries. But Mabel, being strong-willed and stubborn refused to give up. She learned how to write again and for a short time was able to drive and walk again.
Mabel was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald, and their daughter Donna, her parents, and numerous sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews. She is survived by her daughter Lisa, sons Larry Paul and Larry Gene; her 5 grandchildren Jessica, Alissa, Cheyanne, Hank and Hailey; and her sister Margaret Donne.
Mabel had a full life and left a mark on the hearts of many.
