Obituary for Lloyd W. Moyer

Lloyd W. Moyer of Blandon passed away in the early morning hours of January 7, 2021 surrounded in presence and spirit by his loving family. He was three weeks shy of his 88th birthday.
Lloyd was born at home in Maidencreek Twp. to the late Elsie (Heinley) and William Moyer. He attended Ontelaunee School but left to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Lloyd earned his GED and began his working life at Textile. It was during this time that he met June (Phillips) Moyer. They were married June 23, 1962 and lived happily ever after. He took over his father-in-law's custom feed grinding business which he owned and operated for about 15 years serving farms throughout Berks County. Lloyd then purchased Sports Equipment and Supply with stores in Reading, Muhlenberg and Leesport. He "retired" in the early 90's but worked part-time at Amelia's Grocery Outlet until his 75th birthday.
Lloyd was led through life by his Christian faith and felt called to serve his fellow man. He was a past president of the Blandon Lions Club with over 50 years of services. He served as youth advisor and as a member of the consistory for the Maidencreek UCC Church. Lloyd and his wife June were PA state coordinators for UCC Marriage Encounter Expression for about 15 years. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, leading Webelo troops and served on the scouting board of BSA. Most recently, he participated in evangelical and community outreach programs with Faith EC church in Temple where he was a member.
Lloyd had a creative spirit. He loved to paint and was featured in several local art shows. He taught art classes through the community center and provided private instruction to family members in his home studio. He had a gift for sketch comedy and could be counted on to write skits for Blue and Gold banquets, ME conventions and church programs. He even tried his hand at writing and illustrating children's books. Lloyd was an avid golfer, playing local courses multiple times a week in his retirement. He took great joy in teaching his grandsons to play and treasured his time with them on the links. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren whether that was taking day trips to Kitchen Kettle Village, eating ice cream for breakfast, sketching cartoons or sharing a Boston Creme Donut. There was no greater pleasure for him than to hold a sleeping baby and he was thrilled to have the chance to rock his great-grandchildren.
One of Lloyd's favorite things was planning vacations in order to get the most bang for his buck out of each trip. He especially loved Branson, MO, Disney World and Pigeon Forge. He had also traveled as far West as Kansas (by car, before air conditioning) and Colorado and up and down the East coast from the Carolinas to New England.
In addition to his wife June, Lloyd is survived by his sister Fern (Moyer) Shuman of Maidencreek; his two children; daughter Christine (Moyer) Angstadt, wife of Steven, Exeter; and son Kurt Moyer, husband of Deborah (Fetterman) of West Hartford, CT. He has five grandchildren: Joshua Angstadt, husband of Julie of Bellefonte; Benjamin Angstadt, husband of Molly, Middletown; McKayla Angstadt, fiance of Michael Noble, Reading; and Nathan and Jayden Moyer of Connecticut. There are two great-grandchildren: James and Amelia Angstadt; as well as several nieces, a nephew, a multitude of friends, and his cat Miss Kitty.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. The funeral service will be private for the family. Lloyd will be buried in Maidencreek Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring with details to follow at a later date. Contributions can be made in Lloyd's memory to Lions Club International, 300 W. 22nd Street, Oak Brook, IL 60523-8843. For online condolences, please visit, www.leibenspergerfunerahomes.com.
