Obituary for Kerry D. "Brownie" Brown

Kerry D. Brown, "Brownie" "Joe", 82, of Shoemakersville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August
4, 2021 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. "Libby" (Miller) Brown, who died July 31, 2015.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Wirt D. and Kathryn E. (Wixon) Brown. He was a paratrooper and U.S. Army veteran. Brownie was retired. Previously, he was the co-owner of K&R Skids from 1977-2003 and Timber Pallet Lumber Company from 2003-2016.
Brownie embodied the phrase "young at heart." He was sharp-witted, quick to laugh and was
curious and eager to meet someone new, sit down with them, and pepper them with questions
over a Miller Lite. His dance card was always full; meals with friends, shooting at gun clubs
throughout Berks County, impromptu visits from friends, family, and neighbors as he watched
Phillies games on the patio while snacking on ring bologna, cheese, and mustard. He was a
lover of animals and doted on his cat Buffy who was a constant companion in the evenings as
he watched his favorite actor Denzel Washington in The Equalizer, Ricochet & Man on Fire. The
birds and squirrels around his home never went hungry in any season. He stocked multiple
feeders with seed, suet, and peanuts. Brownie was always happy to dogsit for his niece and
nephew’s dogs Riesling & Caya; feeding them treats directly from his mouth. He lived as full a
life as he could after his wife Libby passed in 2015 following years of caring for her in their
home. In the rare instances he was not surrounded by loved ones, he enjoyed doing the
Jumble in the Reading Eagle, playing solitaire with cards or on his phone, and Wordscapes (a
constant source of frustration and triumph).
He will be sorely missed by his daughter Missy and his daughter-in-law Laura, of Los Angeles.
Brownie is also survived by daughter Jill M. (Brown), wife of Ronald Starks, and their family, Orlando, Florida; step-son: William E. Kramer, Hamburg; two granddaughters: Aimee E. (Kramer), wife of Michael D. Brown; and Jennifer M. Kramer; and one great-granddaughter: Kenzie. He is also survived by his sister: Kareen E. (Brown), widow of William Smith, Shoemakersville; two nieces: Kathleen Sunday and Penny Ann Spatz; and three nephews: Donald Sunday; Glenn Sunday; and William Smith. He was predeceased by a son: Rodney G. Brown; and a sister:Elsie Ann (Brown) Boone.
Services for Brownie will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the
South End Gun Club, 5330 Lorane Road, Reading, PA 19606. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Leesport is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences, please visit, leibenspergerfuneralhomes.com.
