Obituary for John J. Sterner Sr.
John J. Sterner, Sr., 66, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 in Hamburg. He was the husband of Peggy L. (Tinklepaugh) Sterner. They were married on November 16, 2002 and celebrated sixteen years of marriage.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Franklin B. and Hazel E. (Folk) Sterner. John was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran during the Vietnam War. Once a Marine, always a Marine was a very important motto of his. He worked for Bowers and Son Construction. John was a born drummer and also played guitar. Music was very important to him. He was very handy and had an artistic knack. John could find something that was discarded and turn it into something useful. He had a good sense of humor and always offered to help someone in need.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: John, and his wife Dana; Frank; Zachary, and his wife Daphne; Aaron; and Rebekah; eleven grandchildren; and two brothers: Gayle and Robert. John was predeceased by his siblings: Phillip, Barry and Joanne.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Hamburg Bible Church, 731 Port Clinton Avenue, Hamburg, PA 19526. A viewing will be held in the church Thursday 9:30 to 11:00 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA 19526 to assist the family with final expenses.
