Obituary for James L. Yeakley

James Lee Yeakley born August 16, 1945 has passed on February 28, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Anyone who knew Jim was touched by his kindness and his giving heart. Jim was always there if you needed him and would be at your side helping in a moment’s notice. Jim loved the outdoors, hunting and driving to many national parks and places with his wife. He loved his seven grandchildren. Just the word “Pop Pop” put a sparkle in his eyes and the grandchildren adored him for his caring and funny gestures.

He married his high school sweetheart Marian (Schappell) Yeakley in 1964 and was married for 57 years. Their love could not have been stronger. They loved to travel together and dance, especially to Elvis Presley. They had three children: Denise (wife of James Lewis, Jr.), Michael husband of Sandi (Kline), and Lori (wife of Ty Smith) and seven grandchildren: Dylan, Mitchel, Katie, Kayla, Tristan, Aaron and Jada.

He was a hardworking man determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything in the world. He always put others first. He worked at Clark Equipment Co., Reading; Hahn Motors, Hamburg; Reading Powder Coatings, Tuckerton; and Hamburg Fire Company as a bartender. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hamburg where he ushered regularly.

“You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you the day God took you home.”

Family members were by his side when he passed and entered the gates of heaven. He will be forever loved and missed by many.

At Jim’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hamburg Fire Company. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.leibenspergerfuneralhomes.com
