Obituary for Jacqulyn M. Strausser

Jacqulyn M. (Ganster) Strausser died peacefully with family by her side on January 1 in her Mohrsville residence.

Born in Pikeville on May 11 (Mother’s Day) in 1934 to Bernard “Barney” A. and A. Miriam “Mim” (Schaeffer) Ganster.

Graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1952. She was a member of St. Mary’s RC Church in Hamburg.

Mom raised three kids as a single mother for years. She instilled some great values in her kids. When times were rough she’d say “you do what you have to do!” She struggled to provide for us but got it done. She was a dedicated employee at Stanley Home Products, Boscov’s Dept Store for many years and later as a bartender at the Mt. Pleasant Fire Co.

Survived by sons Ronald Sands husband of Joy (Hamburg) and David Sands (New Smryna Beach, FL) and daughter Susan Gring wife of John (Lady Lake, FL).

Affectionately known as “GG” (great grandma) by her grand and great grandchildren. Grandchildren Wendy Schofer wife of Joel (Chesapeake, VA). Jennifer Person wife of Scott (Hesston, KS). Kyle Painter (Daytona, FL). Michael Stewart (Hamburg). Great Grandchildren Erin, Nicholas, Ellie and Jason.

She is survived by her brother Neil Ganster husband of Robin and sister Carol Dammeir. She was predeceased by her brother Bernard “Barney” Ganster.

She also had a close knit group of friends. Noreen, Lorraine and herwould often pile in her Jetta and go on “Rum Runs” followed by lunch at Woody’s Crab House in North East, MD. She also loved helping Sandy at yard sales.

Jackie was also known for her quick wit. She spoke her mind. She was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by all who knew her. She was an “original”.

Special thanks goes to Promedica Hospice Services and Senior Helpers. Both groups provided excellent care during her hospice.
