Hazel M.B. Schappell, 83, of Leesport, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Larry G. “Skip” Schappell, died March 23, 1998.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Paul S. and Esther (Barlet) Rothermel. Hazel loved her family. She enjoyed watching television- especially game shows. She enjoyed babysitting for almost 30 years! She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.

She is survived by a son: Heath A. Schappell, Leesport; two daughters: Brenda S. (Schappell), wife of Brian A. Reber, Blandon, and Candy L. (Schappell), wife of David Krumanocker, The Villages, FL; 1 granddaughter, 2 great-granddaughters, a great great granddaughter; three step granddaughters, five step great grandchildren, and four step great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister: Jean (Rothermel) Brobst. Hazel was predeceased by a son: Larry G. Schappell, Jr., died February 5, 2021; a daughter: Julia A. Schappell, died November 30, 1980; two brothers: Paul and Marvin Rothermel; and two sisters: Gloria (Rothermel) Readinger, and Gertrude C. (Rothermel) Paine.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 12 noon from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach StreetLeesport. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
