Obituary for Harold L. "Freck" Miller

Harold L. “Freck” Miller, 90, of Hamburg, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 in Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Schuylkill Haven. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Kapanka) Miller. They were married July 18, 1987 and celebrated 33 years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Lloyd E. and Mary E. (Seidel) Miller. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1948. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Freck worked as a pattern maker for Behler Pattern, Deer Lake for 37 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop #184, at St. John’s. He served as a leader for over 38 years. He first registered as a Tenderfoot in Troop 2 on February 2, 1938, and his record of continuous service to Scouting accounts for a large part of his history of Troop 184. Harold received the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service, and the Lutheran Lamb Award. He was honored by Troop 184 being named Scout Master Emeritus, and in 2018 the troop planted a tree at Etchberger Memorial Park, Hamburg in his honor. He had served as a church councilman for 6 years and was a previous member of the property committee at church.
Freck was predeceased by his previous wife Anna M. (Krommes) Spease, who passed away July 6, 2020. Together they had four children: Glenn H. Miller, husband of Helen (Sholl) Miller, Upper Tulpehocken; Linda A. (Miller), widow of Larry Hudson, Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; Debra J. (Miller), widow of Dale Wenger, Upper Bern Twp.; and Dennis A. Miller, widower of Faith Miller, Tilden Twp. Freck welcomed Mary Lou’s children into his life; Mary Lou has five sons: Stephen, Kevin, Jack, David, and Dwayne; and five daughters: Laura, Heidi, Beth, Amy, and Kim. Freck is also survived by 29 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson: Daniel Miller; a brother: Edward Miller; a sister: Marion (Miller) Henn, and Irene (Miller) Kissinger; and his previous wife Charlotte E. (Guldin) Miller, passed away June 1986.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg (Off Street Parking in Rear).
