Obituary for Garnetta R. Heckman (Savage)

Garnetta R. Heckman, of Hamburg, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 in Orwigsburg Center. She was the wife of Ray C. Heckman, who died March 18, 2009.
Born in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ethel R. (Baer) Savage. She worked at the Hamburg Center for 11 years, retiring June 30, 1989. Garnetta was also a school crossing guard for the borough of Hamburg. She was a member of St. Paul's (Smoke) Lutheran Church, Windsor Twp., where she was secretary of the Willing Worker's ladies group and a choir member. Garnetta was a former member of Hamburg Crime Watch; president of the nutrition center in Hamburg; and a member of the Hamburg Senior Citizens. She enjoyed camping, family get-togethers and going to Red Lobster. Garnetta loved her entire family whole-heartedly. She always wanted to know how her grandchildren were doing.
Garnetta is survived by her son: Keith A. Heckman, companion of Chris Gerhard, Hamburg, as well as her son Adam, six grandchildren: Amanda Heckman, Shelby Heckman, fiance of Seth Brown, Samantha (Heckman), wife of Dan Bostwick; Jordan Heckman, companion of Tanya Yoder; and Nicholas and Michaela Sturm; and four great-grandchildren: Calyee, Jaxon, Danica and Harper. She is also survived by one sister: Elaine S. (Savage), widow of John Clair Spatz, Hamburg. Garnetta was predeceased by her daughter: Rayetta R. (Heckma), wife of Christopher Sturm.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. Paul's (Smoke) Cemetery, Windsor Twp. A viewing will be held Thursday in the funeral home 10:00 to 11:00 am.
