Obituary for Doris L. Leibensperger (Kreider)

Doris L. Leibensperger, 86, passed away on October 1 as she lived her life – quietly and with dignity - surrounded by her loving family. She was raised in Shoemakersville, PA, the daughter of Paul and Adele Kreider. She graduated second in her class from Perry High School. Doris was the wife of John (Mick) Leibensperger for 68 years. She lived in Temple, PA for more than 40 years before becoming a resident in Independent Living at Phoebe Berks Retirement Community for the past 4 years. She retired from Lucent Technologies after 27 years.

Doris and Mick raised two daughters, Kim and Sue, offering them many wonderful memories, including annual summer vacations at the Jersey shore and a 3-week car trip across the United States in 1971. Doris instilled in her daughters a spirit of independence and self-reliance and the desire for education, a professional career, fun, and adventure. She was extremely hardworking and prudent and met her goal for Mick and her to fully financially support their daughters’ college educations. Family and friends describe Doris as gracious, kind and caring. She was a great cook and baker, sent greeting cards to family and friends for all occasions and loved daily walks, vacations to warm weather, bingo, going to New York City to the theatre and other events, Brigantine Beach, the evening and cable news, and Jeopardy. Her love for reading prompted her to volunteer at the Temple Library. When Kim’s husband died at a young age, Doris and Mick did all in their power to support and help raise their two grandsons. Doris, who hated cold weather, never missed one of their football games, including the high school state final in Hershey, PA in snow and sub-zero weather. She and Mick traveled from Wyoming to Maine to spend time with Sue and her other two grandsons, Sue’s twin boys.

Doris will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband; daughter Kim Hitchings and her husband Jim Rieger of Bethlehem, PA; Kim’s sons, Jarret Hitchings, Esq. and his wife Kristen and their son Lincoln of Charlotte, NC, and Michael Hitchings and his wife Stephanie of Philadelphia; daughter Susan Moody of Falmouth, Maine; Sue’s sons, Dr. Benjamin Moody of Salt Lake City, Utah and Christopher Moody of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Doris’ best friend and sister, Janet Klee and her husband Paul and their daughter Dr. Kate Klee Spillane and family; and many friends, several from their days at Perry High School. Doris was predeceased by her parents and sons-in-law, Jeffrey Hitchings and Jay Moody.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Doris’ life for immediate family will be held at a later date. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.leibenspergerfuneralhomes.com
