Donald J. Mayer, 77, of Richmond Twp., passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Berger) Mayer. They were married on April 11, 1959 and would have celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Born in Molltown, Richmond Twp., he was the son of the late Paul and Alice (Dries) Mayer. Donald was the owner and operator of Mayer's Cleaning Service. He previously worked for Wetterau Food Services for nineteen years. Donald was a member of St. Mary R.C. Church, Tilden Twp. He loved Ford Mustangs and Elvis; and was a Philadelphia sports fan. Donald was a huge fan of Lonnie Walker. Years ago, he was a coach for the Mohrsville Little League.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons: Jeffrey L. Mayer, and wife Noreen, Fleetwood; Tod M. Mayer, and wife Dawn, Annville; Shawn A. Mayer, and wife Lori, Shoemakersville; Patrick A. Mayer, and wife Danielle, Blandon; and Josh B. Mayer, Fleetwood; fourteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Donald is also survived by five brothers: Dennis Mayer, and wife Charlie; David Mayer; Dale Mayer, and wife Bobbi Ann; Ronald Mayer, and wife Ann; and Carl Mayer and wife Donna; four sisters: Bernice Benz, wife of Joseph; Carol Nattress, wife of Bruce; Cheryl Bretz; and Gail Kopicz, fiance of Mike Davis; two sister-in-laws: Bonnie Mayer and Patricia Mayer; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son: Bradley S. Mayer; and brothers: Paul, Robert, George and Daniel Mayer.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Saturday 9:00 to 11:00 am.
