Obituary for Betty E. Spatz (Girard)
Betty E. (Girard) Spatz passed away peacefully on January 25, 2024 at Berks Heim, Leesport, PA. Born on January 13, 1930 in Hamburg, PA, she was the daughter of Sterling and Dorothy (Moyer) Girard. She married Harold L. Spatz, Jr. on March 28, 1948 and was married for 64 years.
Betty enjoyed music, playing cards and bingo, making cross stitch quilts, and antique shopping with her husband. In her early years, she was active in the Jaycees wives. Betty worked for the Hamburg School District as an aid and later served as secretary and treasurer of her husband's business. During their retirement, Betty and Harold enjoyed traveling to beach communities, especially their son's cottage in Ipswich, Massachusetts and Saint Michael's, Maryland.
Betty is predeceased by her husband, Harold (2012) and son, Bruce Spatz (2016). She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda (Reeder) Spatz of Connecticut; daughter, Kimberly (Spatz) Hermansader, her husband James of Shoemakersville; daughter, Beth (Spatz) Counterman, her husband Mark of Shoemakersville; grandson, Steven Spatz, his wife Sarah and great-grandchildren, Cabot, Everett, and Laurel of Vermont; grandson, Scott Spatz, his wife Kimberly and great-grandsons, Carson and Parker of Connecticut; grandson, Nicholas Hermansader, his wife Nicole and great-grandson, Jack of Huntington Valley; granddaughter, Molly Hermansader, partner of Jason Weber and great-grandson, Grant of Lancaster; grandson, Zachary Counterman of Shoemakersville; grandson, Brandon Counterman of Shoemakersville; and grandson, Codie Counterman of Hamburg.
