Barry H. Hinkle, 82, of Blandon, passed away in his home on December 26, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Born September 22,1940 in Temple, Barry was the son of the
late James H. and Leona E. (Delp) Hinkle. He was predeceased by a brother Roy D. Yoder. He wed Ruth A. (Phillips) on February 4, 1967 celebrating 55 years of marriage in 2022. In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by a daughter Beth A. Luckenbill, wife of Donald; and two sons, Mark D. Hinkle, companion of Teronna, and Jeffrey S. Hinkle, Sr., husband of Audrey. Barry had six grandchildren, Nathan Luckenbill, Cora Harron, Benjamin and Abigail Hinkle Shelby Griffith and Jeffrey Hinkle, Jr and five great grandchildren, Jace Luckenbill, Lilly Griffith,
Logan, Brady and Taylor Hinkle. He graduated from Muhlenberg High School in 1958. After graduating from high school, he worked for Prestolite Battery and Polymer Corporation before starting his career at Glidden Paints where he became the manager of Quality Control. He retired in 1997 after 35 years of service. Barry was drafted into the Army in 1964, serving his country both in the states and in Vietnam until his discharge in 1966. After Ruth retired, they purchased a truck and 5th wheel RV and began touring the United States. They loved to travel and explore and did so for over 20 years. Their greatest adventure was a three month trip to Alaska. Barry also loved to golf. He organized many golf tournaments for Glidden Paints. He also repaired golf clubs and made custom golf clubs. He golfed as much as possible and enjoyed numerous trips to Myrtle Beach. Barry enjoyed being outside, working in the garden, the yard, or his wood pile for winter. He also liked to sit on his porch and watch the birds and chipmunks in the yard. Ruth will miss the frequent openings and closings of the back door as he came in and out of the house. He was a member of St. Luke's Union Church, Shoemakersville, Pa. and served on church council. For many years, he was active as the Cub Master and then as the assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 183 in Blandon. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Temple and Blandon Fire companies. Barry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest achievement was his family and we will miss him tremendously.
