Arlan R. Wessner, 76, of Tilden Twp., passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Linda F. (Bashore) Wessner. They were married on October 5, 1963 and celebrated fifty-five years of marriage.
Born in Tilden Twp., he was the son of the late Arthur and Laura (Wagner) Wessner. Arlan was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1962-1967. Since 1969, he was the owner and operator of Arlan R. Wessner, Inc.. Arlan previously worked for Mid-Atlantic Canners and E.S. Savage, both of Hamburg. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Hamburg; Shartlesville Fire Company and Shartlesville Fish and Game Association. Arlan enjoyed farming, John Deere tractors, country music, especially George Jones and Merle Haggard; and enjoyed playing bass guitar in the "Jalappa All Stars". He loved animals, mostly his English Bulldogs and cats. Arlan enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Arlan was given a second chance at life when he received a kidney transplant nine years ago. He was a true fighter and in spite of his health, was hanging on to see his grandchildren graduate from high school.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Tina L. (Wessner), wife of Bob Ruhf, Fogelsville; Tammy L. Wessner, wife of Tim Strunk, Tilden Twp.; and Todd A. Wessner, husband of Tracey Schlappich, Shartlesville; and three grandchildren: Tia Strunk, Trinity Strunk, and Trey Wessner. Arlan is also survived by one brother: Richard Wessner, and his wife Sue, Edenburg; and one sister: Carel Wessner, Tilden Twp. He was predeceased by a sister: Elda (Wessner) Shaak, wife of Harry Shaak, Tilden Twp.; and a brother: Arthur "Sonny" Wessner, Jr., husband of Diane Wessner, Strausstown.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from St. Michael's Church, 529 St. Michael's Road, Hamburg. Burial will follow in Strausstown Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the church Wednesday 9:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
