Obituary for Anna E. "Nan" Kaag (Thomas)

Anna E. Kaag, "Nan", 93, formerly of Hamburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in Orwigsburg Center. She was the wife of Donald B. Kaag, who died November 27, 2004.
Born in Bartley, New Jersey on December 29, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Mildred V. (Shafer) Thomas. She was a 1940 graduate of Hamburg High School. Nan and her husband Donald were long-time residents in Florida. While residing there, she was a member of Seminole Christian Church. They lived many different places during their marriage, including Hamburg, Rockville, Maryland, Lititz, and Florida. Nan was a tremendous sewer. She enjoyed crafts, especially making bracelets for the residents of Orwigsburg Center. Nan was very outgoing and enjoyed being around people. She enjoyed travel and music, especially singing in the car with her family as they drove around visiting relatives on Sundays.
Nan is survived by two sons: Donald B. Kaag, Jr., and his wife Cynthia, Moscow, Idaho; and James B. Kaag, and his wife Terri, Morris Plains, New Jersey; daughter-in-law: Diane Kaag; nine grandchildren: Chris, Eric, Kelley, Patrick, Emily, Katie, Michael, Brendan, and Sierra; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Rev. William E. Thomas, and his wife Naomi; and Betty I. (Thomas), wife of Donald Seidel. Nan was predeceased by a son: Thomas J. Kaag, died March 4, 2012; and three sisters: Ruth V. Matz; Mildred V. Mattson; and Dorothy M. Fryer.
Services will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery.
